Evaluation and Treatment of the Cervical-Thoracic Region: A Hierarchy Approach

This one day course introduces a systematic approach to evaluation and treatment of the cervical and upper thoracic spine.   Students will be able to identify and classify common pathologies and utilize various strategies to treat these pathologies effectively.  The course will consist of classroom training and ample hands-on learning opportunities.  Upon completion of this course, students will be familiar with treating patients using neurological techniques joint mobilization, soft tissue, and exercise-based treatment for the cervical and upper thoracic spine.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon successful completion of this course, the practitioner will learn how to:

 

  • Understand the basic clinical anatomy of the cervical and upper thoracic spine

  • Students will be  able to critically evaluate the science of the evaluation of the cervical and upper thoracic regions using appropriate clinical reasoning

  • Student will be  able to preform a clinical examination of the cervical and upper thoracic regions and classify cervical spine disorders based on signs and symptoms 

  • Student will be able to interpret cervical and upper thoracic spine examination procedures

  • Students will be able to determine when and how to use neural, joint, soft tissue and exercise based techniques to maximize patient outcomes .

  • Student will be able to preform treatment techniques which include techniques  for  neural based, joint based , soft tissue based  and exercise based  interventions.

CEU INFORMATION

New York Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants: Professional Seminars is recognized as an approved provider of Physical Therapist and Physical Therapist Assistant continuing education by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Physical Therapy. Full attendance at this Seminar qualifies for 7.8 contact hours in NY. 6.5 Contact hours in NJ.

Robert Shapiro DPT, COMT, NKT

Robert Shapiro graduated summa cum laude from Touro College with a Masters in Physical Therapy. Mr. Shapiro specializes in correcting muscle imbalances, postural alignment, and body mechanics to facilitate full recovery using muscle energy techniques, spinal mobilization/manipulation, prescriptive exercises, strain-counter-strain, myofascial release, Primal Reflex Release Technique (PRRT), the Hesch Method, and Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT). Mr. Shapiro was an adjunct professor at Touro College and New York Institute of Technology.

Cancellations received at least five (5) business days before the event are refundable, less a $50.00 administrative charge per registrant. There will be no refund for cancellations received later. Please note: If you register and do not attend, you are still responsible for full payment. The expense of continuing education, when taken to maintain and improve professional skills, may be tax deductible. Please contact your accountant for complete details. For courses cancelled by Professional Seminars Ltd. participants have the option to attend a rescheduled date or receive a full refund of the registration cost.
