USC Orthopedic Physical Therapy 5 Weekend Seminar Series

Professional is partnering with the University of Southern California's Division of Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy to offer this 15-day seminar series, taking place over five 3-day weekends. This seminar series is for licensed Physical Therapists who want to improve their knowledge base and clinical skills. Taught by experienced clinicians and educators, Joe Godges, Rob Shapiro, and Frank Hoeffner the courses will prepare the participant for advanced clinical practice and clinical residency education. 

Who should attend?  The curriculum in these modules is geared toward 1) Physical Therapists who work in an orthopedic physical therapy clinical practice, and 2) Experienced clinicians who would like to hone their skills as clinical supervisors of staff, interns, and residents.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon successful completion of this course, the practitioner will:

  • Integrate skill improvement in the areas of data collection and interpretation with improvements in the application of manual therapy, therapeutic exercises, and patient education.

  • Prepare participants for successful completion of an APTA Credentialed Clinical Residency Program in Orthopedic Physical Therapy.

  • Create mentors for building next generation of Clinical Specialists in Orthopedic Physical Therapy.

  • Provide clinical education to create highly skilled patient care providers for patients with common musculoskeletal disorders.

New York Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants: Professional Seminars is recognized as an approved provider of Physical Therapist and Physical Therapist Assistant continuing education by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Physical Therapy.

Robert Shapiro, MA, PT, COMT, NKT, SFMA

Joe Godges PT, DPT, MA, OCS

Joe Godges is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Clinical Physical Therapy in the Division of Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy at the University of Southern California. In addition, Dr. Godges is the ICF-based Clinical Practice Guidelines Coordinator for the Orthopaedic Section of the APTA, Inc. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Journal of Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy. He has spent the last 20 years of his career training physical therapy residents and fellows in clinical residency and fellowship programs for Kaiser Permanente, OptimisCorp, and USC. Part of Dr. Godges' professional development included receiving his MA in counseling psychology from Loyola Marymount University and completion of the two-year training process to become a Certified Rolfer from the Rolf Institute in Boulder, Colorado. He is a Board Certified specialist in orthopedic physical therapy.

Robert Shapiro graduated summa cum laude from Touro College with a Masters in Physical Therapy. Mr. Shapiro specializes in correcting muscle imbalances, postural alignment, and body mechanics to facilitate full recovery using muscle energy techniques, spinal mobilization/manipulation, prescriptive exercises, strain-counter-strain, myofascial release, Primal Reflex Release Technique (PRRT), the Hesch Method, and Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT). Mr. Shapiro was an adjunct professor at Touro College and New York Institute of Technology.

Frank Hoeffner, DPT, OCS, CSCS

 

Frank Hoeffner is the Residency Director and Regional Clinical Excellence Director for the Queens/Long Island region at Professional. He received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from New York Institute of Technology in 2010, and then entered into New York University's Clinical Residency in Orthopedic Physical Therapy. Frank has continued his relationship with NYU, serving as an adjunct professor as well as collaborating on several research projects involving the foot and ankle. Frank currently heads Professional's orthopedic residency program.

CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY

Cancellations received at least five (5) business days before the event are refundable, less a $50.00 administrative charge per registrant. There will be no refund for cancellations received later. Please note: If you register and do not attend, you are still responsible for full payment. The expense of continuing education, when taken to maintain and improve professional skills, may be tax deductible. Please contact your accountant for complete details. For courses cancelled by Professional Seminars Ltd. participants have the option to attend a rescheduled date or receive a full refund of the registration cost.
