ABOUT THE EVENT:

We are excited to announce that Dr. Shawn Anthony of Mount Sinai Hospital will be presenting to the staff of Professional Physical Therapy. 

Learning Objectives: 

1. The participant will be able to demonstrate knowledge of ACL tear patterns and repair vs reconstructions options for ACL tears.

2. The participant should be able to identify and recognize surgical indications for various types of ACL injuries

3. The participant should be able to describe ACL surgery and postoperative rehabilitation.

4. Identify the pros & cons of ACL repair versus ACL reconstruction.

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Anthony is a Harvard-trained, Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in arthroscopic (minimally invasive) surgery of the shoulder, hip, and knee. Part of the distinguished Mount Sinai Doctors Faculty Practice, Dr. Anthony is the Associate Chief of Sports Medicine for the Mount Sinai Health System and Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the renowned Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, ranked in the top 10 orthopedic programs in the U.S.

 

Dr. Anthony received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed orthopedic training at the Harvard Orthopedic Residency Program where he was selected to be Chief Resident at Massachusetts General Hospital. He undertook additional fellowship training in shoulder, hip, and knee arthroscopic surgery and Sports Medicine at the Hospital for Special Surgery where he provided medical coverage for the New York Knicks NBA team and New York Red Bulls Major League Soccer team.  Dr. Anthony is an Orthopaedic Consultant for the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and provides courtside medical coverage for the world's top players at the US Open Tennis Championship.

Dr. Anthony specializes in work and sports-related injuries of the shoulder, hip and knee. He has special interest and expertise in rotator cuff tears, shoulder dislocations and labral tears, meniscus surgery, ACL surgery, advanced cartilage restoration procedures (marrow stimulation, osteochondral allografts, MACI, platelet rich plasma (PRP), stem cell therapies), and hip arthroscopy. 

 

Recognized as a leader in his field, Dr. Anthony has over sixty publications and presentations at national and international conferences and holds multiple U.S. Patents on cutting edge orthopedic technologies. He has authored multiple textbook chapters on orthopedic techniques including ACL reconstruction and arthroscopic surgery for shoulder instability. Dr. Anthony is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. Dr. Anthony has been featured on Good Morning America and provides expert opinion for leading news outlets.

 

Dr. Anthony's practice at Mount Sinai West Sports Medicine offers state-of-art in-office ultrasound and X-ray technologies as well as access to same-day MRI scans. 

 

A national authority on sports injuries, Dr. Anthony has been featured on NBC's Today Show, ABC's Good Morning America, The Doctors and other news outlets.
