We are excited to share that Dr. Joseph Michalisin, MD, CAQSM, from Northwell Health will be giving a presentation on The Role of a Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
The participant will be able to demonstrate the scope of a PCSM Physician practice and the significant relationship with the treating physical/occupational therapist
The participant should be able to identify and recognize the various conditions a PCSM sees and the types of interventional treatments we can offer patients
The participant should be able to describe the benefits/treatment options a non-operative sports medicine physician can provide to patients
Identify the pros & cons of operative vs. non-operative management for certain musculoskeletal related conditions
SPEAKER BIO:

Dr. Joseph Michalisin, MD, CAQSM is a board-certified, fellowship-trained primary care sports medicine physician based in New York City who specializes in non-operative management for orthopedic conditions affecting the entire body.
Dr. Michalisin graduated from Fairfield University, where he was a four-year starter on the Division I Men's Tennis team. He was named MAAC Conference Player of the Year and earned Academic All-American honors, finishing his career as the all-time wins leader in Fairfield Tennis history.
Dr. Michalisin earned his medical degree from the University of Medicine & Health Sciences, graduating with Highest Honors. He completed his Family Medicine Residency at St. Luke's University Health Network in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, where he served as Chief Resident. Following residency, he pursued a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at Northwell Health Network, gaining extensive experience as an Assistant Team Physician for Division I Hofstra University, Division III Farmingdale State University, the New York Riptide, and several local Long Island high schools. He has also served as an Event Physician for prominent sporting events, including the Atlantic-10 NCAA Division I Basketball Tournament, the National 7's Collegiate Rugby Championship, the NYC Marathon and the Long Island Ironman Triathlon.
As a non-surgical orthopedic specialist, Dr. Michalisin provides care for athletes and active individuals of all ages, treating acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions affecting the joints, muscles, ligaments, and nerves. He practices evidence-based medicine, staying up-to-date on the latest research and literature to create personalized care plans for each patient. He takes a conservative approach, starting with the least invasive treatments and explores all non-surgical treatment options before considering surgical intervention. He is highly proficient in advanced techniques, including concussion diagnosis and management, diagnostic ultrasound, ultrasound-guided injections, and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)/prolotherapy.
Dr. Michalisin is an active member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM) and has presented research at national conferences. As a native New Yorker, he is dedicated to fostering strong relationships with the community he proudly serves.
