ABOUT THE EVENT:
We are excited to announce that Dr. Michelle Kaufman, DPM, MPH, of Mount Sinai will be presenting on Podiatric Gait Examination and Orthotic Management.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this lecture, participants will be able to:
Identify and describe the key components of a comprehensive podiatric gait examination, including observational and functional gait assessment findings.
Differentiate common biomechanical abnormalities of the foot and ankle and explain their influence on lower extremity gait mechanics.
Interpret gait examination findings to develop a clinical problem list and determine appropriate orthotic intervention strategies.
Compare and contrast various foot orthoses and shoe modification options based on patient presentation, pathology, and functional goals.
Apply clinical reasoning principles to select, prescribe, and evaluate orthotic management plans aimed at improving gait efficiency, reducing pain, and enhancing functional outcomes.

Dr. Michelle Kaufman is a board-certified podiatrist who provides patient-centered, sophisticated foot and ankle care. She is a highly skilled foot and ankle surgeon with expertise in all areas of podiatric medicine, with an emphasis on sports and dance medicine for adults as well as pediatric care.
Dr. Kaufman completed a dual degree at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine and Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai where she received her Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine and Master of Public Health magna cum laude. She graduated cum laude from Binghamton University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry.
Dr. Kaufman completed four years of residency beginning at Yale-New Haven Hospital and then continued at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, serving as chief resident in her last year of training. During her residency, Dr. Kaufman gained extensive experience in reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle, lower extremity trauma, and diabetic limb salvage.
Dr. Kaufman volunteers her skills with an underserved community through Mount Sinai Hospital, while educating medical students and residents. In addition, she volunteers at sporting events including the medical tent of the New York City Marathon.
Dr. Kaufman has also published numerous innovative articles in highly regarded medical literature journals, including Podiatry Today, British Medical Journal, and The Foot.
Dr. Kaufman is a Diplomate with the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and an Associate with the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. She is an active member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and the New York State Podiatric Medical Association.
Her hobbies include spending time with her Miniature Australian Shepherd Truffles, cycling, and yoga.
