  • Any healthcare provider interested in learning about splinting techniques

BEGINNER B*

The Basic B course focuses on fundamental splinting techniques essential for effective patient care. Participants will learn about the following splint types:

  • Ulnar Gutter: A splint designed to immobilize the ulnar side of the hand, often used for injuries to the ring and little fingers.

  • Radial Gutter: This splint immobilizes the radial side of the hand, typically used for injuries to the thumb and index finger.

  • Clamshell: A versatile splint that allows for easy access to the hand while providing support and protection.

  • Resting Hand: Designed to maintain the hand in a functional position, often used for patients with conditions like arthritis or after a stroke.

  • Anti-Trigger: A splint aimed at preventing triggering of the fingers, commonly used for trigger finger conditions.

ADVANCED B*

The Advanced B course delves into more complex splinting techniques, providing participants with the skills necessary for specialized patient needs. The following splints will be covered:

  • Dorsal Block: A splint that limits extension of the fingers while allowing for flexion, often used post-surgery.

  • Yoke/RMO: A splint that provides support and alignment for the wrist and hand, particularly useful in rehabilitation settings.

  • Elbow Hinge: A dynamic splint that allows for controlled motion at the elbow joint, facilitating recovery while preventing stiffness.

  • Anti-Ulnar Drift: A bonus splint designed to counteract ulnar drift of the fingers, commonly seen in rheumatoid arthritis.

  • Ulnar Boost: A bonus splint that provides additional support to the ulnar aspect of the hand, enhancing stability.

  • Static Progressive Digital Flexion Glove: A specialized splint that assists in regaining finger flexion through gradual adjustments.

Splint demonstrations will be followed by a splint lab for hands-on practice with fabrication techniques, allowing participants to apply their learning in a practical setting.

Beginner and Advanced sessions will be offered concurrently, ensuring that all participants receive appropriate instruction based on their skill level.

*Splints listed are subject to change based on the availability of materials and time constraints.
