About the Course...

On Saturday, April 22, 2023, Professional Seminars Ltd. held a half-day course on hand therapy splinting in Bayside, NY. The course was broken up into two sessions: a beginner session and an advanced session.

The beginner session was designed for clinicians with less than two years of hand therapy experience. The focus of the session was on the fabrication and use of basic splints, such as hand and forearm-based thumb spica splints, wrist cockup splints, and hand/forearm-based ulnar gutter splints. The instructor Dana Town, OTR/L, CHT, was clear and concise, and the hands-on activities were well-paced and informative. Clinicians that attended left the session feeling confident in their ability to fabricate and use these basic splints.

The advanced session was designed for experienced clinicians who wanted to learn more about long arm and dynamic splints, as well as splints used for gaining motion in stiff joints. The instructor Joanna spivack, OTR/L, CHT is an expert in her field, and she shared her knowledge and experience with the group in a clear and engaging way. The hands-on activities were challenging and thought-provoking, and the clinicians left the session feeling inspired to learn more about other hand therapy techniques and splinting methods.

Both sessions were well-attended and well-received by the participating clinicians. The instructors were both knowledgeable and experienced, and the content was created to be informative and engaging.

Who was this course for? Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapist and Certified Hand Therapist, with beginner or advance level training, looking to enhance their ability to fabricate custom splints for their patients.
